From playing a stellar role in agriculture, industry, sports and armed forces, Punjabi youth, today is a pale shadow of his past, desolate with little hope of a bright future and has sought refugee in drugs or flight to West.
We, at SIKHS FOR EDUCATION are doing our bit in trying to reverse this trend. We strongly believe that to make a significant difference, Punjabi youth have to strive to become doctors, engineers, IAS officers officers in armed forces, judges and CEOs. Our analysis reveals that only 10.75% students are attracted towards engineering and medical courses after completing schooling. More and more students need to apply for medical and engineering (mainly IITs) colleges. To get admitted to these colleges, students need to pass out school with good grades. Good grades require investing in coaching Institutes for JEE (entrance exam for Engineering), NEET (entrance exam for medical) and IAS Exams and for NDA and IMA. The process costs the parents about 4 lac rupees per year.
This is where SIKHS FOR EDUCATION come in. We have worked out in elaborate system wherein we fund a part of full fee for a student to study in reputed coaching Institute. We have a transparent system based on merit and income criteria, irrespective of religion, caste or gender, which can be checked by the student himself on an app, the student is supported financially partly or fully from 10th standard onwards till 12th to study in reputed coaching Institutes and prepare for various competitive examinations.
Our endeavour here is to help maximum number of students clear competitive exams like JEE, NEET, IAS, NDA IMA etc. We have tied up with reputed coaching Institutes and we pay our contribution of student fee directly to them. We also keep a close watch on the students performance during his years of supported study.

Our analysis reveals that only 10.75% students from Punjab take up to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) after completing schooling – much below the National average.
More and more students need to apply for entrance to medical and engineering (mainly IITs) colleges, NDA and IMA and IAS. Easier said then done ! With pass percentage in all these exams being abysmally low and the quality of education in Punjab specially in government schools being what it is, students need to take specialised coachings for additional studies. Preparing for IIT or other engineering entrance exams requires a systematic approach and a lot of hard work.
Besides hours and hours of self study, it is extremely beneficial to join specialised coaching centres who provide expert guidance and structured study materials. . Good coaching centres charge around 4 lacs per year and with minimum of two years of study required, the total cost comes to around 8 lacs.

CDS (Combined Defence Services) for direct entry to IMA leading to commission as Officers in Indian Armed Forces.
IAS (Indian Administration Services) leading to services in IAS, IPS, IRS and IFS etc.
CLAT (Common Law Admissions Test) leading to degree in Law.
HOW WE DO IT:
We have worked out in elaborate system wherein :
a) bright and meritorious students from economically backward and underprivileged families are identified through various means:
- Our “merit Hunters” at village levels refer such students to us.
- We may conduct a merit-based scholarship exam. The exam can be designed to test the students’ knowledge and aptitude in various subjects and offer scholarships to the performers.
- Collaboration with schools: To identify students who have performed well in their 10th board exams.
- Online assessment: We shall soon start conducting an online assessment to evaluate the students’ academic performance.
b) These identified students are then supported by our Trust:
- by providing coaching and mentorship by funding fully or partly their fee for studying in quality coaching centres. This financial support continues for two years starting with student completing his 10th School exam based on his performance.
- by provide study material such as books, notes and online resources to students to help them prepare for the exams.
- we also intend to start soon our own FREE coaching Centres ( on the lines of Super 30) (link) in rural areas where students can prepare for examinations to professional courses without the need to move to bigger cities and towns.
